A Nautical Haven in South Florida

When we first met this vibrant South Florida family, their love for the ocean was infectious. They dreamed of a home that felt like a warm embrace—cozy and livable, yet brimming with style, a place where their large crew could gather without the stuffy, dated Palm Beach vibe of their existing decor. They wanted to weave the relaxed, nautical spirit of the waterfront into every corner, but with a modern, sophisticated twist. We set out to craft a space that sang of the sea, using blue as our guiding star and natural tones to ground it, creating a serene haven that felt like home.

In the family room, we poured their love for the water into every detail. Soft blue-and-white wallpaper danced with texture, setting a tranquil tone, while arched windows, kissed with protective film, let the sunlight pour in without heavy drapes stealing the view. The fireplace became a centerpiece, reborn with intricate millwork and playful tile patterns, surrounded by a natural fiber rug and rattan lamps that whispered of the coast. A navy performance suede sofa invited lounging, paired with crisp white chairs and a steel-textured chandelier that sparkled like waves catching light. Ceramic gooseneck sconces and a basketweave mirror softened the space, blending rugged charm with delicate touches, perfect for family movie nights or storytelling by the fire.

The dining room became a love letter to shared meals and laughter, painted in a soft hue that flowed from the living room. Whimsical sconces and a playful chandelier cast a warm glow, while the family’s sturdy square dining table stayed, now joined by skirted chairs sharpened with fabric tape. A custom chalet rug softened the room’s edges, and pecky cypress ceilings in a cool tone tied it all together, evoking the weathered beauty of a ship’s deck. The stairway, too, got a nautical nod with custom millwork, a new chandelier, and a runner in ocean blues, anchored by a navy table and brass fixtures that gleamed like lighthouse beacons.

The heart of the home, the family room and banquette space, was designed for connection. A ship’s wheel-inspired chandelier hung above a navy sofa, echoing the family’s seafaring passion, while deep-toned millwork and brass-detailed cabinetry framed the TV. Nautical glass lights spotlighted cherished art, and a high-gloss backgammon table sparked conversation. In the banquette, nestled by the kitchen, a custom captain’s table and natural fiber chairs invited lingering over coffee, with custom pillows adding pops of texture. A peninsula with unique tile and a nautical clock in the kitchen winked at their oceanfront life, tying every space together in a heartfelt ode to the waters they adored.
